Stephen Gillotte featured in Virginia Tech’s “50 for 50” celebration

Stephen Gillotte, CEO of Reinventing Geospatial®, Inc. (RGi®) and a Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) graduate, was recently chosen as one of 50 alumni featured in the Virginia Tech Computer Science (CS) Department’s 50th anniversary celebration. The “50 for 50” spotlights seek to showcase CS alumni who are industry leaders while inspiring the Hokie leaders of tomorrow.

Within the spotlight, Steve discusses the early stages of his technology career, which began in the third grade when he discovered the GW Basic interpreter and taught himself to program, as well as the path he took that led him to found RGi on his 30th birthday.

Steve also talks about how the CS Department helped equip him for running a successful small business by allowing him to focus on interdisciplinary skills, such as public speaking and the ability to communicate technology information to the outside world effectively.

RGi sponsors Capstone project for VT students

Reinventing Geospatial®, Inc. (RGi®) is sponsoring a team of four senior Computer Science students at Virginia Tech for their Capstone project. The semester-long project provides credit for their Multimedia, Hypertext and Information Access class, and involves using Machine Learning to develop a Python tool that will analyze satellite imagery to identify any parking lots it contains.

RGi Software Engineer Mary Carome leads the joint effort while Technical Leads Steven Lander and Mike Szaszy serve as mentors for the team, meeting with the students weekly via video conference to answer questions, provide feedback and offer guidance on project direction. RGi’s goal is to deliver a real-world experience working as a team of developers in order to better prepare the students for their future careers.

RGi CEO Stephen Gillotte discusses career planning with Virginia Tech students

In preparation for his new role on the Virginia Tech Computer Science Department’s Advisory Board, Reinventing Geospatial®, Inc’s (RGi’s®) CEO Stephen Gillotte spent time with the Virginia Tech Computer Science Resources Consortium (CSRC).

Steve participated in several student events where he met with all levels of undergrads to discuss life after graduation, working with recruiters, how to negotiate offers with both small and large companies, as well as the everyday challenges of the work environment. During these exchanges, Steve emphasized the value of having a personal brand, community activism, extracurricular activities, and the importance of continuous learning throughout a career.

RGi CEO Steve Gillotte joins VT CS Advisory Board

RGi is proud to announce that our CEO, Steve Gillotte has been named to the Virginia Tech Computer Science Department’s Advisory Board. While in this role, Steve will advise the department head on initiatives and overall direction of the department, and engage with current students to encourage and enhance their educational experience.  “As a Virginia Tech CS alum, it feels great to give back to the organization that was so foundational to my own career,” Steve said. “I’ve always been passionate about education and helping the professional development of students, so it’s an honor to be a part of this distinguished group.”
